This is a very powerful rosary as it is equipped with six St. Benedict Medals. However, it is important not to be superstitious about Catholic rosaries and medals; they are sacramentals to be used as 'sacred signs instituted by the Church to prepare us to receive the fruit of the sacraments and to sanctify different circumstances of our lives' (CCC, 1677). With the power of the Holy Cross St. Benedict worked many miracles. He escaped traps that were set for him and fought heroically against temptation.
He became known for his power over the Devil with the Holy Cross and his capacity to make the Devil flee. The St. Benedict Spiritual Warfare Rosary is based upon this tradition.
This rosary includes six St. Benedict medals when we include the one embedded in the cross.
Front of St. Benedict medal:
On either side of St. Benedict (above the chalice and the raven) are the words Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti, which is Latin for 'Cross of the Holy Father Benedict'.
Around the perimeter of the medal are the words Ejus in obitu nro praesentia muniamur, which is Latin for 'May we at our death be fortified by his presence'.
Back of the St. Benedict Medal:
There are initials on the cross in the centre which read C.S.S.M.L. - N.D.S.M.D. These stand for Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux, which is Latin for 'the Holy Cross be my light'. And Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux, which means 'Let not the dragon be my guide'.
There are circles by the four corners of the cross which read CSPB - this stands for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti, which means 'Cross of the Holy Father Benedict'.
Around the perimeter are the initals for the prayer of exorcism: V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B. This stands for Vade Retro Satan, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana - Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas, which means 'Step back Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities - evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thy own poison'.
At the top is simply the word Pax, which is Latin for 'Peace'.
This rosary should be used in the same way as any other, however, because it is equipped with the St. Benedict medal there are additional spiritual benefits. These include warding off evil and temptation, obtaining the conversion of sinners, help for women during childbirth, granting the grace of a happy death, peace during storms and times of uncertainty, and the intercession for the curing of disease.
This rosary is heavier than most. It weighs about 4 grams due its 55 x 6mm Hematite stones. It's also the perfect gift for baptisms, first communions, first reconciliations, confirmation, and weddings!
We recommend you have your rosaries and other holy items blessed by a Deacon, Priest, or Bishop once you receive them.
